Old Fashioned Wine

Finished recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz whiskey
  • 3/4 oz brandy
  • 1/3 oz Missouri Pomegranate wine reduction syrup
  • 1 dash angostura bitters
  • ¾ oz orange juice
  • Orange peel for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add the wine and sugar to a small saucepan.
  2. Place the pan over high heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves.

  3. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Cook for 5 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid reduces and coats the back of a spoon like a light syrup. Be careful not to overcook it into hard candy.

  4. Let it cool.

  5. Stir all ingredients, except for the orange slice, in a mixer with ice.
  6. Strain the cocktail into a lowball glass with a fresh large ice cube. Garnish with the orange peel.
