Easy Red Wine Hummus

As we start a new year, new health goals are usually top of mind. Celebrate Norton month with this easy and delicious red wine hummus. Garbanzo beans (also known as chickpeas) are a great source of protein, fiber and rich in nutrients. Studies have shown they can balance cholesterol levels. Lemon and garlic are high in antioxidants. If your New Year’s resolution includes focusing on healthier choices, add this into your rotation of snacks and enjoy it with a glass of bold Missouri Norton.


2 cans garbanzo beans (drained and well-rinsed)

1 chopped white onion

 2 tsp minced garlic

1/4 c sesame seeds

1/2 c Norton wine

Juice of 1 lemon

1/2 tsp pepper

1 tsp sea salt

1/3 c olive oil


1.Drain cans of Garbanzo beans and rinse well. Set aside.

2.Add chopped onion, garlic, and sesame seeds in a saucepan. Mix in Norton wine of your choice. Simmer at medium to low heat until wine has evaporated. (5-10 mins)

3.Combine garbanzo beans, wine mixture, lemon juice, pepper, and salt to food processor. Blend and pause several times to pour in olive oil gradually in three parts.

4.Serve and garnish as desired. Serve with colorful vegetables like celery, carrots, cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, bell peppers, zucchini, cauliflower and broccoli. You can also serve with rice crackers, tortilla chips, pita bread and wheat crackers. Enjoy on salads and sandwiches as well.
