Vidal Blanc (vee-dahl-blahnc) is a French American hybrid that is known for its hardiness and ability to tolerate colder climates due to its thicker skin. This varietal was developed by a French grape breeder in the 1930s and is now a staple in Missouri wine country. Bearing 99.8 acres in Missouri.

Style: Dry to semi-dry wine

Tastes: Apple, Citrus, Lemon and Grapefruit 

Smell: Fresh summer garden

White Wine BBQ Sauce

White Barbecue sauce might sound different, but boy is it delicious! The recipe below is made even better by adding your favorite, Missouri wine. Try it out!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Reduced Missouri Seyval Blanc
  • 1 ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon white peppefinished and plated reciper

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper more or less to taste

  • 1-2 tsp Sugar (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Reduce the Wine: In a small saucepan, simmer the wine until it is reduced by half. Let it cool completely.
  2. Combine: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, reduced wine, lemon juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, white pepper, kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder and cayenne pepper until smooth.
  3. Rest: Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld.
  4. Serve: Use as a dipping sauce, or brush onto during the last few minutes of grilling.
